The Plainfield Police Department is a law enforcement agency that protects the lives and property of the citizens and visitors, preserves peace, prevents crime and disorder and safeguards personal liberties. It maintains the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), which handles issues related to homeland security and emergency preparedness, including severe weather spotting, hazard mitigation, and ground search and rescue. The Plainfield Police Department employs a staff of more than 80 full- and part-time sworn officers, civilians and community volunteers. The department has a code enforcement unit that addresses public health and safety issues related to garbage, removal of vegetation, zoning, dangerous buildings, housing and inoperable vehicles on private property.
