Anixter Center
Founded in 1919, Anixter Center is a nonprofit organization that works to help individuals with disabilities. It has merged with various nonprofit organizations, including the Chicago Hearing Society and the National Lekotek Center. The organization offers educational, employment, communication, recreational, health care, counseling and support services to more than 5,000 children and adults. Anixter Center provides services to individuals with HIV/AIDS and physical, intellectual, developmental, sensory and psychiatric disabilities. It also offers substance abuse treatment services to people with disabilities at Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital. The organization also provides coordinated medical, psychiatric and psychological outpatient services. Anixter Center has received the Innovative Program Award from the American Rehabilitation Association and the Member of the Year Award from the Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities. It is a charter member of the Metro-Chicago Human Services Coalition.
