Neiman Foods is responsible for building the first supermarket in Quincy, Ill., in 1940. In 1917, Ferd Niemann Sr. and Steve Niemann opened their first grocery store. By 1930, they had 10 corner grocery stores and a thriving wholesale business. In 1969, the company started to phase out of its wholesale business and began to concentrate on retail. The grocery store operates under the names of Country Market, Cub Foods and Save-A-Lot. Niemann Foods operates in more than 45 stores in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and Iowa. The grocery store s corporate headquarters are located in Quincy.
