Metropolitan Family Services offers community-focused assistance to children and households. Founded in 1857 as the Chicago Relief and Aid Society, the agency administers a variety of services that include child and youth development, school-based assistance, violence prevention, child welfare, and counseling and mental health services. In addition, it operates employee assistance and community development programs. Metropolitan Family Services sponsors Family Fun Day program in association with the Department of Children and Family Services, Illinois Department of Human Services, Chicago Department of Human Services, Chicago Housing Authority, United Way and Chicago Department of Public Health. The agency supports seniors through individual, family and group counseling, case management and psychiatric services. It maintains an office in Blue Island, Ill.
