Located in a Civil War-era house, the McCord Gallery and Cultural Center has grown to become an integral part of Palos Park. The stately home was transformed into a gallery and art center in 2004 after local officials and various community groups banded together to create a place where residents could learn about and appreciate the arts. The gallery displays the work of its students, who take a variety of classes. Open to all skill levels, the classes vary from painting and water color to drawing and comic-making. A large number of children's classes are also offered and provide unique exposure to the arts. Music lessons and private instruction are also available. McCord also displays artwork by area artists and accepts proposals for additional exhibitions. It operates as a nonprofit and holds a variety of events throughout the year. The historic setting provides a unique environment for students of all ages.
