Launched in 1992 to focus on the lighter side of poetry, this quarterly publication has featured the works of John Updike, X.J. Kennedy and William Stafford, among others.
Metronic and funny poems are the norm here: "Any topic, from light verse, or its antecedents, to ephemeral or everyday objects, may suit; in lengths from brief apéritifs to lengthy meditations." Cartoon illustrations are also considered.
Operations Manager Thomas Gorman said the publication has a circulation of about 1,000 readers spread around the world. The magazine is not available in bookstores but can be found at the New York Public Library, Harvard University Library and others.
The publication is willing to work with new or unpublished writers and volunteers are welcome at this nonprofit publication. Light Quarterly also participates in an annual Printer's Ball held every summer at Columbia College, which is open to the public and features independent, Chicago-area literary publishers.
Light Quarterly submissions are only accpted by mail. The address and guidelines can be found here: http://lightquarterly.org/lightsubmit.html
