Lester and his son, Major, delivered nutmeats and other ingredients to Chicago bakers, building a reputation for superior products and service and honest relationships. In the process, they built a company that is now one of the bakery industry s leading ingredients suppliers. Unlike many of its domestic and foreign competitors, Lawrence does not own interests in orchards or agricultural processing plants. This allows it to buy in the geographic regions offering the finest fruit from season to season. That strategy has produced long-term relationships with processors that work hard to meet the company s expectations.
