The county highway department, led by Director Fran Klaas, is responsible for building and maintaining 125 center-line miles of county roads and 28 bridges, as well as the accompanying signs. If a county snowplow knocks over a mailbox while plowing, the county will reimburse the resident up to $50 to replace the mailbox and help with the replacement if the resident is unable to do the work. The county department also helps build township roads and bridges.
