The Elgin Fire Department works to prevent and extinguish accidental and destructive fires. It provides a range of services to a population of more than 94,000 citizens and covers an area of over 35 square miles. The department is responsible for providing emergency ambulance service to injured and critically ill individuals. The Elgin Fire Department s fire prevention bureau works to minimize the risk of life and property loss through proactive planning, awareness and the enforcement of safe fire practices. The department administers the Juvenile Fire Setter Program, as well as manages several fire stations. It is governed by the City of Elgin in Illinois.
