The place to share and learn about and share your own knowledge about Lake Zurich and Ela Township history is the Ela Historical Society. Visitors can research information about their families or donate photos and memorabilia germane to the area. The small building that once served as the Ela Town Hall contains a library, displays, files, local research, books about local history to purchase and a meeting room on the second floor. One display features an old-fashioned school room complete with a notice seeking teachers for an annual paycheck of $150. The groups' meetings are open to the public. The historical society's first meeting was held in 1976 and there are currently 60 members.
