Dawson Technical Institute is a memorial in honor of William Levi Dawson, the late United States representative from the First Congressional District in Illinois. The institute is a unit of Chicago-based Kennedy-King College, began with a planning grant from the Economic Development Administration. It offers course in medical billing and coding, machine tooling, desktop applications, security, computers, and electrical and plumbing maintenance. It also provides vocational courses in business and industrial technology, health occupational programs, carpentry, electronics and welding. The institute maintains child development centers, which are laboratory preschools offering care to children ages 2 through 5 years. It provides a variety of services to students with physical and hearing disabilities that include readers, note takers, personal care attendants, transcribers and adaptive equipment. Dawson Technical Institute is located in Chicago.
