History
Cross-Cultural Interpreting Services was established in 1996 to improve access to services for Limited-English-Proficiency (LEP) individuals. CCIS was the first program of its kind in Illinois to recruit, assess language skills, and train in the medical interpreting field. Cross-Cultural Interpreting Services is a program of Heartland Alliance for Human Rights and Human Needs, a not for profit organization established here in Chicago 125 years ago. When you work with CCIS, you become a partner with Heartland Alliance--a service-based human rights organization focused on investments and solutions for the most vulnerable men, women, and children in our society. Proceeds from foreign language interpreting, document translation, and interpreter training services help provide health care for those in need.
