Founded in 1975, the Center for Prevention of Abuse provides services to victims of domestic violence, exploitation, neglect, and sexual and elder abuse. It serves more than 15,000 men, women, children and students each year. The center provides counseling and violence prevention education to students in pre-kindergarten through college. It offers a 24-hour crisis hot line and temporary shelter, as well as transitional apartments, work referrals, and employment and emotional support services. The Center for Prevention of Abuse also provides court and medical advocacy services. It is operated by a board of directors and offers life skills training and children s services. With a location in Peoria, Ill., the Center for Prevention of Abuse serves Fulton, Marshall, Stark, Tazewell and Woodford counties in Illinois.
