The American Planning Association is a nonprofit, public interest and research organization. Its nearly 40,000 members include practicing planners, officials, students and citizens. Its members work for state and local government agencies and provide assistance in formulating planning policies and land-use regulations. The organization has more than 40 regional chapters and nearly 20 divisions devoted to specialized planning interests. Its chapters offer various menus of professional development options. It also offers consultancy services and provides planning expertise in general planning and specialty areas. The American Planning Association, located in Chicago, caters to clients ranging from one-person firms to multinational corporations and deals in a myriad of specialties.
