Adkins Energy is a cooperative working to improve the conditions of the agricultural communities in Illinois. The cooperative has a large plant that converts corn into ethanol. The cooperative aims to create career opportunities, preserve quality of the surrounding environment, increase the value to a bushel of corn for area farmers, expand local economy with increased business opportunities and produce new and high quality products for the marketplace. Adkins annually produces more than 42.5 million gallons of denatured ethanol, over 75,000 tons of distillers dried grains with solubles and over 150,000 tons of wet distillers grains. Adkins provides market updates and the United States Department of Agriculture reports to the farmers. It is based in Lena, Ill.
