Founded in 1948, Salmon River Electric Cooperative is an electric-service provider. Based in Challis, Idaho, the cooperative delivers rural-electric services to approximately 2,500-electric accounts in south central Idaho, including parts of Custer, Lemhi and Blaine counties. Besides 606 miles of overhead distribution line, 67 miles of underground distribution line and 63 miles of subtransmission lines, the group owns two 69 kilovolt/24.9 kilovolt substations. Salmon River Electric Cooperative also operates and maintains a 230-kilovolt-transmission line. It also offers residential-surge protector services.
