The Idaho Transportation Department is governed by the state of Idaho. The department manages more than five administrative districts that are responsible for the transportation planning and maintenance of highways. The department operates district offices in Coeur d'Alene, Lewiston, Boise, Shoshone, Pocatello and Rigby in Idaho. Its transportation planning and programming division focuses on data collection and analysis. The Idaho Transportation Department also manages an aeronautics division. The department is responsible for the management of more than 5,000 miles of highways and over 1,500 bridges, as well as nearly 30 recreational and emergency airstrips. In addition, it oversees federal grants to approximately 10 rural and urban public transportation systems.
