Dr. Arena is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon foot and ankle specialist. He completed his undergraduate education at Penn State University majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Bio-Engineering. He then completed his four-year Medical School training at West Virginia University where he earned a Doctorate of Medicine degree (M.D.). He then returned to Penn State University where he completed a 5-year Orthopedic Surgery Residency/Chief Residency. Following completion of residency training, Dr. Arena, completed an Orthopedic Surgery Foot and Ankle Fellowship at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. His area of expertise includes foot and ankle Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy, foot and ankle trauma/reconstruction, treatment of foot and ankle arthritis, deformity correction, tendon disorders, toe deformities, hallux valgus (bunion deformity) correction, limb salvage as well as non-operative treatment of painful foot and ankle conditions. Dr. Arena is thrilled to be in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to continue practicing his passion in Orthopedics while working alongside other like-minded surgeons on the OSI team who are committed to furthering the field of orthopedics with research and development. Dr. Arena's background in mechanical engineering gives him a unique perspective when it comes to approaching patient care and determining treatment options. This fresh perspective helps to get patients treated properly and back to doing the activities they love. To Dr. Arena patient care is a privilege and helping those to improve their quality of life is the reason he became an orthopedic surgeon.
