Founded in 1959, Highlands Intermediate School serves more than 250 students in grades seven and eight and offers a variety of educational services. It provides various academic courses, such as technology education, social studies, science, mathematics, English, and physical and health education. In addition, the school has a Web site that offers various online courses and virtual field trips. It is administered by the Hawaii State Department of Education, which enrolls more than 180,000 students and is among the top ten largest school districts in the United States. The high school is approved by the Accrediting Commission for Schools of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Highlands Intermediate School is located in Pearl City, Hawaii.
