Hawaii BioEnergy, LLC (HBE) is a consortium formed by three of Hawaii's largest landowners, Kamehameha Schools, Grove Farm Company Inc., and Maui Land Pineapple Company, Inc., along with partners from the venture capital community. HBE's mission is to reduce Hawaii's energy costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and dependence on imported fossil fuels through the research and development of local renewable bioenergy projects.
HBE actively explores various processing techniques and distribution channels for energy crops such as sugarcane, woody biomass, and algae. The consortium welcomes participation from other major landowners, businesses, as well as state and county agencies in Hawaii.
