The Hale Koa is a hotel and recreation facility for military members and their families. The Hale Koa is an ambassador of aloha to more than 1million visitors annually. Fort DeRussy Armed Forces Recreation Center is the home of the Hale Koa, or House of the Warrior, which has 817 rooms. Hale Koa guest rooms are fully air-conditioned and equipped with alarm clock/radio, color TV, video cassette player, telephone answering system, iron/board, hair dryer and lanai. Each room also has a refreshment cabinet. The Hale Koa operates self-sufficiently, with no taxpayer dollars supporting upkeep or operation. The hotel celebrated its Grand Opening on October 25, 1975, with an ancient Hawaiian blessing ceremony and royal procession.
