Founded in 1960, the East-West Center is an educational and research organization that was established by the U.S. congress. It works to increase understanding and cooperation among individuals and the nations of Asia, the Pacific and the United States. The center offers an interdisciplinary research program that examines various issues related to U.S.-Asia Pacific relations. The East-West Center additionally provides dialogue and professional enrichment programs that focus on groups for media, educators, and political and policy leaders. The center organizes various seminars and events. It receives grants from the U.S. government, private agencies, individuals, foundations and corporations. The East-West Center maintains an office in Honolulu.
