Headquartered in Kahului, Hawaii, Akaku is a nonprofit public service agency, providing local media access for the islands of Maui, Moloka'i, Lana'i and Kaho'olawe. The firm is state s designated community access television service provider with local access channels, including Calabash TV channel 52, Visions TV channel 53, Experimental TV channel 54, MCC-TV channel 55, and Maui Educational TV channel 56, exclusively available on Oceanic Time Warner Cable. It was the first community television station in Hawaii to offer archived streaming video over the Internet. Akaku additionally offers a wide range of services, including media training, voice sharing, volunteer community programs, and anchoring services. It also provides opportunity for various nonprofit organizations, educational institutions and governmental agencies, to contract Akaku special projects to produce and broadcast the events.
