YMCA Camp High Harbour, a branch of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, operates summer residential camps, leadership programs and youth retreats. High Harbour has programs and facilities that fit diverse interests. The camp, on the shores of Lake Burton, offers two general camping programs, four specialty camps, a day camp and an advanced leadership academy. Among the activities are horseback riding team, sports archery, arts and crafts, challenge and ropes course, riflery and gun safety, canoeing, kayaking, photography, nature study, dance and swimming. Camp High Harbour was developed in 1970. In 1985, the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta purchased the camp. The Metro Atlanta YMCA is the sixth largest and one of the fastest growing YMCAs in the country, serving more than 180,000 people and operating with a budget of $65 million. The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta provided financial assistance that represents more than $23 million and supported more than 15,000 children and adults in 2004.
