The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is a public agency that works to protect and conserve natural, historic and cultural resources for present and future generations. It recognizes the importance of promoting the development of commerce and industries that utilize sound environmental practices. The department operates coastal resources, environmental protection, historic preservation, pollution prevention assistance, wildlife resources, and parks, recreation and historic sites divisions. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources also maintains a land conservation division that handles the certification for the Conservation Tax Credit program and works closely with the Georgia Land Conservation program, which is administered by the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority. It supports Project Wet, which facilitates and promotes the awareness, appreciation, knowledge and stewardship of water resources through the development and dissemination of classroom-ready teaching aids. The department maintains one of its locations in Thomson, Ga.
