The Valdosta Police Department provides law enforcement services, promotes public safety and protects the rights and property of residents in Valdosta, Ga. The department consists of more than 130 sworn personnel, nearly 25 non-sworn support personnel and approximately 18 part-time employees. The patrol bureau is responsible for the initial response to calls for service. It includes the traffic unit, the power squad, the special response team and the K-9 unit. The investigative bureau conducts investigations of criminal activity, including property crimes, crimes against persons, juvenile crimes and drug-related crimes. It is also responsible for the department's crime laboratory. The support services bureau is responsible for all non-enforcement activities, including the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, school resource officers, records and the municipal court. The Valdosta Police Department has been certified by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
