The Office of the Chief of Police, a part of the Columbus Police Department, provides crime prevention and law enforcement services to the city of Columbus, Ga. It operates a budget office that is responsible for federal grant management, invoice administration, reimbursement of claims, procurement of office supplies and conducting internal audits. The office also has a polygraph unit that conducts polygraph tests related to criminal and administrative issues and pre-employment background processing. In addition, the Office of the Chief of Police has a crime analysis unit that collects and analyzes crime data to detect trends and areas of concern. The Office of the Chief of Police also administrates the activities of other specialized units, including a Special Weapons and Tactics team, narcotics unit, and emergency response and honor guard teams.
