Swimming has a long tradition at Piedmont Park. The park's first bathhouse was built in 1911. A granite bathhouse, called Greystone, replaced the wood version in 1927. Parkgoers swam in Lake Clara Mara until the early 1970s when health concerns arose. The park's first swimming pool was built in 1973. The pool underwent major renovations and reopened in 2009.
Today, the pool has features that cater to everyone. There are lanes for laps, shallow-water bathing decks and a fast-moving channel that flows into a whirlpool. Kids can wade into the pool at the beach-like entry and enjoy playing with the fountains that squirt from the concrete. The pool offers concessions, locker rooms and a shower. Greystone has 9,000-square feet of event space that can be rented for wedding receptions and other special events. For pool closures, call 404-875-7275, ext. 324.
