New Mercies was founded by Pastor Jesse Curney III with the help of 35 charter families. The church has seen explosive growth since it opened in 2002 on Rockbridge Road, then relocated to Killian Hill in 2005. The church opened with 1,000 attendees at its first service and now has more than 2,000. It worships in the 1,800-seat Family Life Center (there's an additional 300 seats in the Youth Worship Center on the opposite end of the complex). It sponsors 34 ministries that reach out to families, youth, music, singles, married couples and the community. Its internet-based radio station — WNMC, J316 — webcasts Christian music and inspiration 24 hours a day. Future expansion includes parking for 915 vehicles and the construction of a 3,500-seat worship complex.
