Joi Nichols, M.D., received her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and recently completed her post graduate training and residency at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children and the UAB Huntsville Health Center Clinics. Dr. Nichols is a member of the american Academy of Family Physicians and is the co-author of a research article on Skin Photo protection by Natural Polyphenols: Anti-Inflammatory, Antioxidant, and DNA Repair Mechanisms which investigated the role of polyphenols in prevention of skin cancer. Dr. Nichols specializes in family medicine and has a special interest in the management of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, women's health and preventative medicine. She understands the importance of educating her patients about his/her medical condition and providing the appropriate treatment for acute/chronic disease. She believes the patient plays a huge role in his/her health through a healthy lifestyle which includes proper nutrition and exercise. She understands the importance of the doctor-patient relationship and her greatest reward is being able to help people. She enjoys reading, playing basketball, running, spending time with family, and volunteering in the community.
