In 2002, only two calcium silicate manufacturers remained in North America; The Calsilite Group and Johns Manville. That year, to keep this strategic insulation product healthy and viable into the future, these two companies formed a joint venture which became Industrial Insulation Group. In 2003, IIG added both industrial and commercial mineral wool pip, boards and batts to the product offering through the purchase of the Phenix City, Ala. Plant from Ownes Corning. Today, IIG s combined assets include the mineral wool plant, two calcium silicate factories, a perlite plant, a high density board production line, as well as a growing processing operation for insulation accessories.
