Ikemefula Ekekwe, M.D., earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nigeria at Nsukka and his medical degree from the University of Nigeria at Enugu. He went on to do his internal medicine residency at Saint Joseph Hospital, an affiliate of the University of Illinois at Chicago and did an additional year of chief residency. Then, he continued with fellowship training for pulmonary and critical care at Loyola University Medical Center and sleep fellowship training at New York University. Dr. Ekekwe is board certified in pulmonary, critical care, sleep and internal medicine. Prior to joining Piedmont Physicians, Dr. Ekekwe worked in healthcare and education. He was a teaching faculty staff member at Saint Peters University hospital/Rutgers University and was the associate medical director at the Center for Sleep Disorders at Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Dr. Ekekwe is a member of the American Thoracic Society, Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Physicians. His special interests include sleep disorders, asthma, interstitial lung disorders and COPD. In his spare time, Dr. Ekekwe enjoys gardening, watching movies, soccer and painting.
