The Hamilton Mill library is one of 15 branches in the Gwinnett County Public Library (GCPL) system. At the end of fiscal year 2010, GCPL had more than 328,000 registered cardholders. In 2010, GCPL had 3.1 million visitors to its 15 branches and 3.2 million visitors to its website.
The Hamilton Mill branch holds the distinction of being the county's first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building. Some of the library's "green" features include sunshades, low-flow automatic toilets and faucets, native landscaping and pervious parking.
In October 2010, the branch was recognized by the United States Green Building Council with a 2010 Excellence in Sustainability honorable mention award.
According to Executive Director Nancy Stanbery-Kellam, Gwinnett County Public Library's award-winning 15-branch system is a result of active citizen support over the years.
