The Global Village School is a nonprofit that provides educational training—including intensive English language programs—to teenage girls ages 12 to 20 who are survivors of war and refugee camps. The school helps its students with enhanced academic programs in all subject areas but also incorporates essential life skills training.
The school formed out of what was called "Saturday School" to meet the needs of five teen survivors of war from Afghanistan. In June 2008, the Saturday School, in partnership with the Agnes Scott College, was awarded a $200,000 grant from the Atlanta Women's Foundation to pilot an expanded program and open a full-day school for 30 teenage refugee girls.
