A classic neighborhood school for Buckhead's Garden Hills community, Garden Hills features a diverse student body, with 75 percent of the student body Hispanic, 13 percent white and 12 percent black. The stately building is in the National Register of Historic Places. Like other Buckhead elementaries, the school offers the International Baccalaureate program in concert with Buckhead's middle school and high school. According to a statement from Principal Amy Wilson Alderman, the school has a "well-earned reputation for effectively and creatively meeting the needs of each child through its model foreign language program, gifted education offerings, rigorous and challenging academic and arts standards, low class size and individual and small group instruction." Classrooms feature interactive white boards and a 20-to-1 student to teacher ratio.
