The Fulton County Jail can hold approximately 2,500 inmates. The inmates are housed on 14 floors. The jail is the holding facility for city of Atlanta, meaning all persons who are arrested go to the county jail first. The inmate may be transferred after his or her court date. First appearances are held at the Fulton County Jail, said an officer. The jail offers the inmates many services, including GED schooling and culinary arts training. There is a 24-hour medical facility on the third floor, as well as holding cells for handicap and mentally ill inmates.
"We try to treat everybody a certain way," said Officer Angelic Douglas. "They are still human."
People looking to bail someone out, need to access the jail at the intake entrance at 1101 Jefferson St. Processing time for arrests should not take more than 8 hours, said an officer at the jail. Video visitation is located in the trailers of the Rice Street facility's parking lot.
If you call the jail about a person, you must have the person's social security number, birthday and knowledge about that person's charges.
