The Division of Family and Children Services offers foster care, financial assistance and support services. Located in Waynesboro, Ga., the division also investigates child abuse and neglect cases. It is a part of the Georgia Department of Human Resources, which is one of the largest state agencies and employs more than 19,000 people. Founded in 1972, the department operates a teen-parent improvement program that provides school-based day care, family planning and educational services. It also offers in-home services, such as nursing, occupational and speech therapies and respite care. In addition, the Georgia Department of Human Resources provides education and training sessions on topics, such as family independence and social services.
