Dobbins Air Reserve Base has two runways and serves as the home station of the 94th Airlift Wing and the headquarters for the 22nd Air Force. It is also home to the Georgia Army National Guard, the Georgia Air National Guard, the Army Aviation Service Facility No. 2 and Navy and Marine reserve units. The base dates back to an airfield built for the U.S. effort during World War II and dedicated to World War I fighting ace Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker. The base was eventually dedicated in honor of Capt. Charles M. Dobbins, a C-47 pilot who died during the war near Siciliy.
