Dekalb Academy is a charter school, founded in 2005 to educate children from kindergarten through eighth grade. The school aims to become recognized as one of the top ten charter schools in Georgia and the U.S. by steadily improving its student achievements.
The school focuses on the environment and on technology. The students apply their knowledge of math, science and other subjects to solve technology-related problems.
The environmental program explores geology, geography and archeology and other natural sciences, with a focus on environmental sustainability. Outside activities are frequent and include gardening in a school plot.
Parents are asked to donate 20 hours a month in service to the school, serving for example as tutors and teacher's assistants.
