Antioch Baptist Church North has a distinctive modern roof of slatted, dark metal above walls of red brick. The structure's interior is likewise modern in appearance, but the use of blond wood for pews and the pulpit give the space an intimate warmth. A feeling of intimacy at a church whose congregation is reportedly 14,000 is no small achievement, of course, but the sprawling structure keeps its various rooms (including a chapel) on a human scale. Parking lots signal the church's numbers far more clearly: They surround the building and have such names as "Heaven" and "Eden." A church staff person emphasized that efforts the congregation makes to be neighborly include striving not to impede local traffic with many, many cars parked on the streets bordering the property.
