History
A legacy of the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games, AAASP is a membership of schools, state high school associations, coaches, officials and professionals serving students with physical disabilities through school-based (interscholastic) adaptedSPORTS. It has adapted many if the the popular disabled sports, originally designed for specific disability types, to allow for local application with groups of over 40 varying types of disability types, allowing them to participate together locally, at school. The sports are highly competitive, safe and fun. AAASP has developed training aides, video, adapted rules, policy, guidelines and equipment for school teams. AAASP trains coaches, coordinators, school administrators and officials and is a numerous time honored, national model program. When schools or entire states need guidance, AAASP is here to assist their efforts to add adapted programs to their athletic offerings at school.
