The Alpharetta Engineering/Public Works Department works to provide effective engineering and maintenance design solutions to preserve, protect and improve city s infrastructure. It reviews, oversees, manages and maintains streets, drainage, waterlines, urban forest and transportation systems. The department additionally administers various ordinances, such as stormwater management, tree protection, and flood damage and traffic control. The Alpharetta Engineering/Public Works Department maintains a tree commission that is a volunteer board appointed by mayor and approved by the Alpharetta City Council. It is responsible for the care and maintenance of existing trees, community service and public education. The department partners with various agencies to provide residents and small businesses opportunities to discard confidential documents using a mobile, on-site shredding truck.
