Headquartered in Dobbins, Ga., the Georgia Air National Guard consists of more than 3,000 men and women. It is made up of five units whose missions range from airlifting cargo to installation and maintenance of electronic equipment. In addition to the Dobbins base, the Georgia Air National Guard has bases in Macon, Robins, Savannah and Brunswick, Ga. The Air National Guard has been a part of United States history since the Revolutionary War. Today s Air National Guard is a separate reserve component of the U.S. Air Force. There are more than 140 Air Guard units throughout the U.S. and its territories. While missions vary from unit to unit, some interesting ones include pararescue missions, modular airborne firefighting support, combat communications and air traffic control.
