Treadway began life as a foam packaging supplier to the electronics industry. However, it became apparent that the company could apply its knowledge of EPS foam to the construction industry. In 1988 Treadway teamed up with Walt Disney World to create the MGM Back Lot (now known as Disney's Hollywood Studios). This was the first time EPS foam had ever been used to create a major themed environment. Treadway was then invited to California by Universal Studios as a consultant to advise them how to use EPS foam for the facades of their soon to be made theme park,
