The Polk County Tax Collector's Office is responsible for the collection of revenue and public funds for a variety of state, regional and local government agencies and taxing authorities. It also handles the distribution of revenues and the investment of public funds. The office is accountable for the collection, enforcement and distribution of funds. Established in 1868, the Polk County Tax Collector's Office serves as an agent of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Department of Revenue and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. It processes motor vehicle and boat title registration transactions. The office collects local business and tourist development taxes, as well as issues hunting and fishing licenses.
