Since 1959, the Pit has been the place for Manatee High football fans to gather before or after the big game. Owners Bob and Debbie Crowe have kept up the tradition since taking over in 2001, posting catchy messages of encouragement for the beloved Hurricanes on the big sign out front on game day. But it's not all about football - you can get your happy birthday message or anniversary shout-out posted out front just by calling and asking.
The Shake Pit is known for its delicious shakes, from peanut butter to watermelon and everything in between, but it also owns multiple titles for serving up the "best burger in town." Step right up to the counter to order and leave the credit cards at home because, in a throwback to its '50s roots, the Pit only takes cash. You can dine out front under the awning or at the old-school counter inside, where you'll be surrounded by more Manatee High regalia such as a classic Canes helmet or vintage cheerleader uniform. Be sure to check out the signatures of former Canes greats and local celebrities on the ceiling, and try to spot a picture of the head coach from rival Southeast High buried beneath the Manatee High team photos and pictures of family and friends.
