Sanitation Collection Services are provided by the City of St. Petersburg Sanitation Department. The department disposes of more than 325,000 tons of refuse per year. It provides services to over 75,000 residential and nearly 5,500 commercial accounts. The department operates various recycling centers and processes approximately 50,700 tons of recyclables. It also recycles newspapers, glass, and cardboard. The department converts yard clippings into free mulch. It maintains a community appearance division that removes graffiti and snipe signs. Its community appearance division is responsible for keeping the vacant lots clear of overgrowth and debris. In addition, the department is responsible for removing dead animals, furniture and appliances collections. The City of St. Petersburg Sanitation Department offers rodent control treatment and refuse container repair and replacement services.
