Monroe County Property Appraiser is responsible for identifying, locating and valuing real and personal property within the county for tax purposes. It also tracks ownership changes and maintains maps of parcel boundaries. The organization additionally keeps records and descriptions of buildings and properties and analyzes trends in sales prices, construction costs and rents to estimate the value of assessable property. Monroe County Property Appraiser accepts and approves applications from individuals who are eligible for exemptions and other forms of property tax relief. The organization uses computer-assisted mass appraisal and geographic information systems, which provide detailed and up-to-date property ownership maps for field appraisers.
