The Division of Environmental Health is a part of the Florida Department of Health, which provides a range of health care programs. The division offers waste disposal, radiation control, pesticide poisoning protection and lead poisoning prevention programs. It issues licenses for hospitals, universities, industrial facilities and roofing companies. The division operates a hot line that provides information related to radon gas and indoor air issues. It maintains a Web-based database to track and respond to food and water contamination and cases related to vector-borne diseases. The division also provides health-related information on asthma, birth defects, cancers and developmental disabilities. Its biomedical waste program protects health care workers, environmental service staff members and the public from risks associated with infectious biomedical waste. The division also monitors beach water for the detection of bacterial indicators. It inspects and regulates swimming pools and on-site sewage treatment and disposal systems.
