Incorporated in 1992, Metropolitan Charities Inc. is a social service agency that meets the needs of the human immunodeficiency virus-affected individuals, as well as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and at-risk communities. Based in St. Petersburg, Fla., the organization serves individuals of Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco and Hernando Counties. The agency provides various substance abuse treatment/prevention, counseling, case management and social/recreational programs. In addition, it runs a food pantry and a thrift store that provides gently-used household goods, clothing and other merchandise to anyone living with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome. Apart from these, it provides human immunodeficiency virus testing and prevention services.
